    Winter loves you

… you just have to love it back.

I do not know what to tell you except that winter is love and winter is lovely. There’s no explaining why the bitter bite of the winter world makes me happy but it does. I like the minimalism of the colour palette, in part, it’s true. I like the way I look in winter clothes. I like how present the cold makes me feel in my own body. I like the shapes of branches against the cold grey, or the colder blue. I like  the little adventure of frost building and disappearing and rebuilding across my windows. I like skating in the dark in a small town on Christmas night, round and round, just me and some people I love, blades on ice. I like finding the secret icy brook in the woods where I go on my snowshoes. I like the pink of winter cheeks. I like my breath rendered visible and my eyelashes whitened. I like the mysteries it solves, winter, and the mysteries it brings.

There is delight in winter, if you know to acquiesce.

dude i would laugh so hard if those two yogafools fell in. but then i suck, so.

“see spectacularly awesome northern lights” was already on my list of things yet to do, but now “whatever that surfer is doing” is on it, too. also the thing with the mailboxes, because bahahaa ftw.

I with you. I love winter and I’m totally looking forward to the big snowstorm tomorrow. All those crazy people who take “sun” vacations can have them. I’d rather be here. Love the photos today.

“It’s like having a big white sheet of paper to draw on!”

The funny thing is, I love my sun vacations and expect to someday live close to a body of water which never ever freezes…and I do have a tendency to get very dark when my body is cold…but getting right out into the thick of it to explore and adventurize (heh) recalibrates my entire system and makes me feel like a little kid again.

Fortunately, I have a Hobbes in my life, right now.
