    Dinna fash yersel’

The world spins on its axis, on and on and on, no matter who comes here or leaves here, no matter how happy or sad you are, no matter, no matter.

The beetles clacking in the forest dinna fash themselves about volcanic spew or stranded travellers, about Hitler or Joan of Arc, about the Medellin Drug Cartel or Bobby Orr’s knee, about Goldman Sachs skulduggery or Vatican buggery or Teabaggers’ thuggery, about what newspapers Sarah Palin reads or whether or not Sarah Palin even can read, about how much Bolivian marching powder Rahim Jaffer hoovered up  or when or where or with whom, about Hank Williams’s Pulitzer or Roxanne Pulitzer’s trumpet or Tiger Woods’s strumpets. They don’t care about joy is the aim or why don’t you love me like you used to do or blue blue windows behind the stars. That, I find, is comforting. And also, not. Everything that happens will happen today.
